REUBEN BEAN’S MARTIAL PROFILE

Reuben Bean’s journey into martial arts began in 1996 when he was introduced to Shotokan Karate while in university in Canada. He proficiently moved through his initial Kyu (under belt) grades under the careful tutelage of Sensei David Steward (5th Dan). The majority of his Kyu gradings were adjudicated by Sensei Frank Woon-a-Tai, Chief instructor of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and Master Teruyuki Okazaki, Chairman of the ISKF and direct disciple of Master Gichin Funakoshi.

Reuben has a passion for unravelling the deeper meanings of life and this important developmental ideal is evident in his karate training. He has studied numerous martial concepts and tactics, and has also tested these skills competitively, obtaining his first international medal—a bronze team kumite medal in the 17' Championnat National de Karate on October 11-12 1997 in Montreal, Canada. Along with Shotokan Karate, Reuben has studied and been adjudicated in traditional Ryukyu Kobujutsu (classical Okinawan weapons), Wing Tsun Kung Fu, Yang Style Tai Chi, Sanshou, boxing, judo, grappling, mixed martial arts, various indigenous arts and reality-bases self-protection systems.

Upon returning to Bermuda in 2000, Reuben began training with Sensei Nigel and Trevor Williams (Rokudan) of Budokan Karate and Kobujutsu Club. There he received his SHODAN (1st Degree Black Belt) from their affiliate the International Karate Kyokai (IKK) on March 16, 2001, his NIDAN (2nd Degree) on August 29, 2003, and his SANDAN (3rd Degree) on December 8, 2008. Reuben also receives Ryukyu Kobujutsu instruction from Sensei Julian Mead who studied for six years in Japan under the late Grandmaster Motokatsu Inoue at the Honbu dojo in Shimizu.

In 2005, Reuben expanded his martial repertoire by introducing the full contact Chinese freestyle fighting art of Sanshou to Bermuda. He co-founded the Bermuda Sanshou Association in October of that year along with Garon Wilkinson and began competing in the sport in both local and international tournaments.

A seasoned competitor, Reuben has received over 100 trophies and medals including numerous local and international Grand & National Grand Championship statuses. This includes Bermuda’s primary tournament, the Bermuda Martial Arts Federation Championship where he held the title of BMAF National Grand Champion seven times. Other notable championships include Bermuda Arts and Fitness Academy (BAFA) Kata Grand Champion, Bermuda Open Karate Championship (BOKC) Weapons Grand Champion and the Lepercq Memorial Kata, Kumite and Weapons Grand Champion.

Reuben continues to represent Bermuda while enhancing his experience in the international  arena. In 2001 he travelled to Jesolo, Italy to compete in the WKO Championships. Reuben has represented the island in the World Karate Federation (WKF) Championship in Madrid, Spain in November 2002 and   in the 2004 WKF Championship, in Monterrey, Mexico. In March 2006, he competed in the Arnold Martial Arts Festival in Columbus, Ohio where he returned with a gold medal in Wing Chun Kung Fu Form and fourth place in Sanshou also commonly known as Sanda. On July 22-23, 2006 Reuben placed fourth in Sanshou at the 6th Pan American Wushu Championship in Toronto, Canada. In November of 2006, Reuben defeated his opponent in Bermuda’s inaugural Sanshou event promoted by Bermuda Sanshou Association and then returned to the Arnold Martial Arts Festival in March 2-4, 2007, capturing a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal in karate weapons, karate kata and wing chun forms respectively. He followed that success with two gold medals in wing chun and wooden dummy forms at the 10th Annual Chin Woo Taiji Legacy International Martial arts Championships in Plano, Texas on July 20-22, 2007. Later that year on November 11-19, 2007 Reuben travelled as Head Coach to Beijing, China with the Bermuda Sanshou Association for the 9th World Wushu Championships. This event served as the qualifier for Wushu Tournament Beijing being held during the 2008 Olympic Games.

While studying his two degrees, Political Science and Sociology/Anthropology at Carlton University in Ottawa, Canada, Reuben favoured a passion to explore the deeper meanings of life and to share and teach this true knowledge with others. In November 2002, Reuben in association with his dojo, Budokan Karate Club introduced his branch of Youth Karate Classes. To date, he has taught hundreds of students and currently instructs over 40 young adults. Reuben believes that a solid foundation in kihon (basics) is essential allowing for the karateka to correctly execute the more advanced applications of the system. In addition, Reuben’s company—Jiketsu Martial Productions—not only provides martial training, offering instruction in the traditional arts, combative arts and in reality based self-protection (The 10 Lesson Self-Protection Course™), but it also incorporates a registered charity, Jiketsu Foundation (712), a security branch, Jiketsu Protection Servicesand Jiketsu Martial Productions (JMP) which promoted “SANSHOU SHOWDOWN” on June 23, 2007, and “FISTS OF FURY” on September 13, 2008 in Pembroke, Bermuda.

On May 10-11, 2008 Reuben successfully completed the Self Defense Training System and Instructor Certification Seminar and was authorized to teach the highly effective reality based self-protection system by CEO and Master Instructor of the New Jersey based Self Defense Company, Damian Ross (student of world renown authority on the fighting methods developed by the legendary Dermott “Pat” O’Neil and William E. Fairbairn, Carl Cestari).

Reuben is also a certified Sacred Mer-Ka-Ba Techniques and Trinity Healer (Alchemist) after completing many difficult years of study. All Natural Energy Healing techniques and Treatments are based upon electro-magnetic energy transference. The electrical wavelengths and magnetic currents of a healthy body, when super-energized, can be used to heal an injured or diseased weakened body.

Reuben along with Sacred Mer-Ka-Ba Healers around the world, have been trained for years to remain within and to work with, this super energized state of electro-magnetic energies. While in this super-energized state, the Healer is able to direct a constant and pure flow of highly charged electro-magnetic energy, becoming one of the legendary “Philosopher’s Stones”, (transforming the atoms and molecules of dis-eased cells into healthy natural stem cells) to heal injuries, diseases and disorders.

Reuben is now able to provide advanced energy healing treatments and techniques to anyone that is ‘ready’ to be healed of any dis-ease, whether emotional, mental, or physical.

Reuben believes that just as your body becomes that which you eat, so your mind becomes that which you think. Ones focused attention is the energy and vital force that, when manifested mentally, will begin to attract the right people, conditions and circumstances, thus enabling one to achieve their goals in life—be they in martial arts, business or their personal life. Your subconscious mind will begin to accept these affirmations as being true and this will hasten the process and the absolute reality of your affirmations. What you focus on in your mind will, over a period of time, eventually become reality. Moreover, the ultimate aim is not to nourish hatred, fear, guilt or mental inferiority, but rather exemplify the sensitive essentials of unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness.

“The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.”
Gichin Funakoshi
